Local author Loretta Beaver is ecstatic to have her first novel published by a major publishing company.
Her first novel, “Passionate Alliance”, has now been released and will soon be available at various book stores across North America.
The Girouxville resident explains she has been writing this novel for many years, and set it aside while she raised children and lived through her many life experiences.
“I’ve been writing since I was about 20 years old,” explains Beaver. “It’s almost a compulsion, once you start writing it just flows.”
Beaver says she was working on two novels at the same time, so it took her an uncanny amount of time to complete the series.
The first novel has already been published, and she says the second will quickly follow suit.
The second of the series is called “Raven and the Golden Eagle”. She says because of the length it will be split into two different books.
“The novels are historical romances based in the 1800s,” she says. “They are set in North Dakota and Montana.”
She says she will also be starting a third book which will be based in England and Whales. It will be entitled “Dream Dancer and the Celtic Witch.”
“I started writing these when I was 20, now I’m 43,” she explains. “I was always re-doing parts of the book, trying to perfect different elements of the story.”
Beaver says she thinks part of the length of time taken was due to a lack of experience. She says over the last 10 years she has grown a lot as a person, which has defined her writing style and allowed her a different vision while writing her novels.
Beaver will be holding a book signing for her novel on Feb. 19 at the Girouxville Museum with about 40 books available for sale.
The signing will be held from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., with refreshments and a snack available.
“I am hoping to have a book signing in Falher in future weeks,” says Beaver. “The first novel will be available on March 17 in any book store.”
She explains you can also order her novel by visiting publishamerica.com.
Beaver was born in the New Brunswick but has been in the Smoky River Region for nearly 10 years. She has two daughters, who are both living in Northern Alberta.
“This is definitely a dream come true,” says Beaver. “When I found out I squealed so loudly that my father was concerned about me. I made sure I called everyone that I knew.”
As for Beaver’s future, she says she is hoping to start writing full-time and will be focussing on finding new ideas to continue this series and to start a new novel.
