League leading Lakeland Eagles face-off against Fairview Kings

Regular season league leading Lakeland Eagles have the opportunity to end the Fairview Kings season, facing off the fourth place East Division team in the first round of the playoffs.

Fairview visited McLennan on Feb. 9 to fight for playoff pride.

Kings’ James Shepherd opened the scoring at 4:54 of the first period, with an assist awarded to Kory Rondeau.

They continued to set the bar, scoring their second goal on Eagles’ starting goalie Cannon Cunningham at 12:29. Tom Bondaruk scored off a play generated by linemates Shepherd and David Austin.

Eagles’ scored at 18:03 on Fairview’s goalie Scott Frayn. The goal was scored by Jay Anderson, assisted by James Tallman.

Shots on goal at the end of the first were 13–8 in favour of Lakeland.

The Eagles came out of the dressing room in the second period high-flying and ready to remind the Kings why they finished top of the league.

Jay Anderson scored his second goal of the game at 3:54 on the power play, assisted by Tyler Shantz and Travis Chalifoud.

Fairview obtained the lead once again at 7:59 off a goal by Darryl Peterson, assisted by Dillon Flahr.

Eagles responded just two minutes later even strength. Chris Noskey shot a firecracher past Frayn, assisted by Tallman and Logan Goodswimmer.

Craig Anderson scored at 15:19 unassisted to give the Eagles their fourth goal of the game.

All-star player Tyler Shantz scored with just 27 seconds left in the second period, with assists awarded to Allan Anderson Jr. And Dave Lamouche.

Shots in the second were heavily in facour of Lakeland, with the Eagles shooting 20 pucks at the net, while Fairview only managed nine.

Third period action was started by Lakeland, with a goal by Travis Chalifoux at 3:49 on the power play. The marker was assisted by Anderson Jr.

Brandon Hill attempted a Fairview comeback at 7:33 on the power play. Helpers were awarded to Mich Landry and James Shepherd.

Eagles scored their final goal of the game on Frayn at 17:31. Jay Anderson scored his hat trick goal, unassisted to give the Eagles a 7–4 victory.

Lakeland scored twice on five power play opportunities, Fairview managed to score once on four chances.

Final shots on goal were 43–22 in favour of Lakeland.
