Town of McLennan eliminates fluoride from water treatment

Town of McLennan has made it official.
Council decided to take out the fluoride from water treatment process as of this month, to prevent the treatment plant from becoming a level 3 operational plant.
“Town council chose to take the fluoride out after questioning the community about their concerns via water bills and articles in the Express,”says McLennan CAO Tammy Stout. “If we were to keep the fluoride in our water, the operators would have had to upgrade their certification from a level 2 to a level 3.”
This decision was made after careful speculation to see if there was any reason to keep the fluoride in the water.
Various studies from the province and international studies on fluoride were examined and carefully scrutinized by town council to ensure their decision was not going to harm the health of the community.
After careful studies, the council realized there were no negative health effects if they were to eliminate fluoride from the water.
McLennan houses broken into
Town of McLennan has built two homes in the community to help promote infrastructure growth in the community.
Unfortunately, vandals took it upon themselves to break into both homes earlier this month.
“Both the Applecroft and Willowcroft homes were broken into,” says Stout. “We are looking for any information as to who may have done this. Any information can be directed to the McLennan RCMP detachment.”
Both homes had their doors kicked in and some of the tools in the homes (used by contractors) were stolen.
Stout explains security has been established at both sites. She says the town is actively looking for the culprits of the break-ins.
Arena renovations
The McLennan Curling Club has decided to begin construction of an upstairs seating area at the H.W. Fish Arena in McLennan.
Fundraising efforts have been completed by the group to help fund the project, which will commence early this spring.
The group is hoping renovations and upgrades will be complete in time for their annual cash bonspiel, which will be held in April.
The group is also holding a six week curling season this spring. The season will be hosted by the McLennan Curling Club from April 8 to May 16. Entry is $50 per person, with curling sessions held two days each week.
Interested curlers must sign up by April 5th by calling Rita after 6 p.m. at 780-324-3052.
Final registration night is April 5 from 7 – 8 p.m. at the arena lobby.
