The sixth annual Whitemud quad rally will be held this weekend, April 23 and 24.
This year’s rally will be held from Fiddlehead Park, one kilometre west of Desaulniers’ lot near Whitemud where the event is typically held.
Event organizers Jamie Cloutier, Claude Laflamme and Jamie Rey have altered the itinerary this year.
First on the agenda is a mud bogs set to be held on Friday night. Entry fee for each quad is $20. Cloutier explains they’ve decided to add the mud bogs as an additional attraction for avid ATV enthusiasts.
“First place prize in the mud bogs will be a set of rims and tires that have been donated to us,” says Cloutier. “Second prize will be $500, and all winners will receive trophies.”
He says organizers are hoping to have three different classes involved in the mud bogs.
The rally itself will be held on Saturday.
Registration for the event will begin at 8 a.m. Entry for the rally is $20 for the first hand, and $10 for each additional hand.
Rules and regulations will also have to be followed to ensure a safe experience for all bikers.
“We have a new trail that is high and dry with no muskeg,” says Cloutier, explaining the organizers are working closely with Sustainable Resources to ensure the environment is not damaged by the rally. “Registration and insurance are required, as well as helmets while on the quads.”
Camping spots will also be available for those interested. Cloutier says he hopes people will make an entire weekend out of the event, taking into consideration safety. He says a local woman has made her 100 acres of open land to provide plenty of camping space for participants.
He explains debit machines will be on site.
A food booth will also be available from 5 p.m. until midnight on Friday. A deejay has also been hired to play from 8 p.m. to midnight that evening.
Registration for the quad rally will begin at 8 a.m. and will run until 12 p.m.
“This year all hands must be turned in by 6 p.m.,” says Cloutier. “Prizes will be drawn at 7 p.m., all quads must be in prior to that time.”
A band will be playing on Saturday night, Cloutier says they are a cover band from Grande Prairie that plays all types of music.
Waivers will have to be signed prior to going out on the 55–60 km trail. If really wet, the trail will be reduced to 30–35 km.
