OBIT ~ Rosaire Chevrette, 1922-2010
|
Rosaire (Ross) Chevrette passed away on May 1, 2010. He was born in Falher on March 20, 1922 to Joseph and Estelle Chevrette (nee Remillard).
He was the third child of six. His father passed away when Ross was only 5 years old and 8 years later he lost his oldest brother, Aldeo.
Ross helped his mother run the White Lunch café in Girouxville. At the age of 18, he and his younger brother, Al, began a trap line in the Peace River area. There they hand built a log cabin. The work was challenging but both brothers thrived in the outdoors.
Ross fell in love with Cecile Brochu of Girouxville and they were married Aug. 22, 1950. Three years later with their young son Leo, they moved to Prince George where work as a master carpenter was more plentiful. Their family grew with the addition of two daughters, Doris and Jeannette.
Ross enjoyed a 32 year career in Prince George working on many projects, including the three pulp mills, schools and office buildings in the surrounding areas. There are many houses in the area that have benefited from Ross’ carpentry expertise.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing darts and horseshoes.
Nothing pleased him more than to spend the weekend at the lake camping and fishing. In 1988, after retiring at the age of 63, Ross and Cecile moved to Kelowna to enjoy the milder winters and longer gardening season. There he joined the seniors club learning to play bridge and spent many hours honing his pool playing skills.
He took up lawn bowling and competed in the Seniors Olympics. He continued his passion of woodwork and created many beautiful bowls, candle sticks and bird houses.
Ross was predeceased by his parents and two brothers (Aldeo and Al). He is survived by Cecile, his loving wife of 59 years, his three children, Leo (Cathy), Doris (Greg) and Jeannette. Also five grandchildren and two great grandsons, his sisters Aldea Marceau (Falher), Pauline Gerein (Vernon) and his brother Camille (Kelowna). Ross was a quiet person with a twinkle in his eyes who adored his wife and loved his children, enjoyed his life’s work and took pleasure in a good laugh. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road. Interment to follow at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society: 211-1889 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5V5. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com
