OBIT ~ Remi Guay , 1923-2011
|
Remi Guay, long-time resident of the Smoky River region, passed away at his home in Falher, AB on January 2, 2011 at the age of 87.
Remi was born on April 29, 1923 in Quebec City and arrived in Alberta at an early age with his parents, Therese Larouche and Alfred Guay.
Starting a challenging life – as in those days coming from a city to pioneer days for a young boy was very difficult, especially after losing his mother at 8 years old. Then the hard work began, clearing virgin land to prepare for future farming. Life under those conditions was extremely difficult.
Age 30 was a special time for Remi. He found a hard working partner, Cecile Gerard. They were happily married for 57 years and farmed for many years together.
Upon retirement, Remi enjoyed selling and trading vehicles. He always enjoyed traveling south for the winter for many years, espcially to Mexico, where he became fluent in Spanish.
Remi loved his morning coffee with his friends, reminiscing about his life adventures and his beach days in Mexico. Making people laugh was one of his biggest enjoyments in life.
Remi is survived by his wife, Cecile, his brother, Joe, sister, Jeanne d’Arc Moore, sisters-in-law, Pauline and Mariette Guay and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his partents, sisters, Marie Rose Servant and Irene Gaucher, as well as brothers, Alain and Roger Guay.
As his Mexican friends would say: “Adios Amigo.”
