OBIT ~ Clément Sliger, 1930-2011

Clément Sliger, long-time resident of Jean-Côté, Alberta, passed away peacefully in his home on July 20, 2011 at age 81years.

Clement Georges Sliger was born in Desbiens, Lac St. Jean, Quebec on June 23, 1930.

Clement settled in Jean-Côté with the family when they moved to Alberta in June 1948.

He was a great help to his parents on the farm.

He brought in extra money through his employment on the St. Jean Farms, at the Savard Lumber Mill and later in construction jobs.

He owned his own construction company, Clem Sliger Construction, for many years and cultivated land of his own.

He built the presbytery in Jean-Côté in 1968.

He also built many other buildings in Falher and surrounding area.

When Randolph was ready to retire, Clem took over the family farm.

His parents moved in with him in his new house on the farm.

His house continued as the meeting place for many family gatherings at Christmas or holidays.

Clem was well known for his good humor and generosity.

He had a passion for antiques of all kinds.

His basement was full of them from Edison record players to butter churns.

But he mostly enjoyed renovating antique cars and showing them off in the local parades.

He liked to go to Shaw’s Point in the summer to camp and to cruise in his boat.

But in the last few years, Clem retired from all these activities and mostly enjoyed visiting with friends at the nearby hotels.

Clement is predeceased by his parents, Randolph and Regina Sliger and sister Rose-Marie Parenteau.

He leaves 14 siblings: Armand Sliger, Pierre (Francine) Sliger, Diane (Raymond Despins) and Marianne (Mike Chalifoux) of Falher, Estelle (Irvin Maclin) of Wanham, Henriette Francoeur, Henri (Dixie) Sliger, Lucy Kolebaba, Louise (Marc Lissoway) and Cecile Campbell of Grande Prairie, Eveline (Gerald Bergeron) of Prince George, Carmeline (Jack Hibbard) of Devon, also Normand Sliger and Raymond (Beatrice) Sliger of Quebec.

Funeral services for the late Clément Georges Sliger were held July 25, 2011 from the Notre-Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Girouxville with Rev. Father Maurice Marion and Deacon Reginald Bouchard officiating.

Internment followed at the Jean-Côté Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Chapel of Memories Funeral Homes in Peace River.
