Obituary: Joseph Gilles Donald Boivin, 1926-2012

Joseph Gilles Donald Boivin passed away peacefully on March 12, 2012, at the age of 86. He was born March 1, 1926 in Chicoutimi, Quebec to Marie-Ange and Alfred Boivin. He had nine sisters and seven brothers.

As a toddler, he moved with the family west. They went with settlers and homesteaded north of Eaglesham. As a young man, he worked labour jobs for many farmers, in logging camps and at the McLennan Hospital. It was there that he met Mary Eliane Martin and they married in 1954. They bought land north of Tangent, along the banks of the Smoky River, where they farmed and started a family.

In 1964, they moved to the Guy area and continued farming and raising their seven children. He worked many winters at logging camps. During the summer, he worked as carpenter and for local bee keepers to help supplement the farm income. He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, hunting and picnicking with family and friends. He was a generous person and was always willing to lend a hand and invite people in for a coffee or a meal. He retired from farming in 1991. He and his wife settled in the Falher region. He moved into the Villa Beausejour in Falher, in September 2009.

Donald was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Marie-Ange Boivin, a brother Julien, a sister Hermance and his wife Eliane Boivin. He is survived by his brothers: Maurice, Marcelin, Josepha, Roma, Delipha and Henri. He is also survived by his sisters: Cecile, Rita, Norma, Berta, Eugenie, Florence, Jeanne and Juliene.

Also surviving are his children: Louise (Ray) Dupuis, Brigitte Cahoon (Rod Jackson), Rosalie (Randy) Cahoon, Patricia (Dave) Snow, Remi Boivin, Alfred Boivin, Phillipe Boivin (Cindy Schneider), as well as nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

His service and reception were held at the Villa Beausejour March 24, 2012 at 2 p.m.

Internment of his ashes will take place at a later date at the Tangent Cemetery.

Donald will be deeply missed by his children, siblings and many friends.
