Obituary: Reina Rey, 1927-2012

Reina Lia Rey passed away February 29, 2012 at the age of 84, daughter of Elphege Couillard and Eva Audet, was born on the Couillard homestead, October 17, 1927 south of Girouxville.

She married Rene Rey on December 29th, 1947 and together they had seven children.

How do we describe this lady? Honest, compassionate, generous, patient, caring, understanding, a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, and a great friend.

Always a hard worker, no matter what ailed her, Mom’s over flowing heart of gold ensured that everyone’s needs were tended to before her own.

Gardening, playing cards, sewing, crocheting, were some of many hobbies she enjoyed. Mending was an art form for her. She always rose to the challenge of taking the most worn out socks and jeans and mending them to an almost new condition.

For many years she was an avid floral enthusiast. Many hours were spent in the “Parterre” sewing seeds, weeding, and cultivating her lovely abundant blossoms.

Her greenhouse, garden and flower beds were admired by many who drove by the house or stopped by for a visit.

For the past few years she made her residence at the Villa Beausejour lodge in Falher.

After the loss of her beloved husband Rene, her health issues required her to make the transition to her final home at the Manoir du Lac in McLennan.

Once there she adjusted quite quickly to her new surroundings and was courageous enough to build new friendships with the residents and staff alike.

Because of who she was, her unspoken legacy will live on. Her strength and perseverance will be cherished by all who knew her and her teachings will transcend for generations to come.

Funeral services for the late Reina Rey were held at the Paroisse Sainte Anne Church in Falher on March 3, 2012. Officiating was Msgr. Charles Lavoie P.H.

Cross bearers were Nancy, oldest grandchild and Corey, youngest grandchild. Pallbearers were grandchildren: Michael, Lynn, Daniel, René, Nicole, Jamey, Kevin and Chantal. Honorary pallbearers were the residents and staff of the Villa Beauséjour and the Manoir du Lac.

Music was performed by Marcella Lorrain, and Yvonne Gagnon. Eulogy was read by her niece Lorraine Beaudoin. Readers were nieces Léona Labrecque and Pierette Charest. Offerings were delivered by Roland and Helene Couillard, along with her six great-grandchildren, Brenden, Hailey, Tejah, Alexis, Kane and Danika.
