OBIT ~ Mohammad Saleem (Sam) and Zubida Kousaf Butt, 1959-2009, 1962-2009

Mohammad Saleem (Sam) Butt passed away on Dec. 9 in Pakistan of heart failure. Sam was born on April 1, 1959.

His spouse, Zubida Kousaf Butt also passed away in Pakistan due to heart failure on Nov. 10, just six weeks after heart surgery. Zubida was born on Jan. 2, 1962.

They are survived by their children Robina (Amjad), Zobina (Tabarak), Saeed, and Zanib. They are also remembered by their grandchildren Misbak, Aneeka and Muneeb.

Sam arrived in Girouxville in 1987 to take over the hotel coffee shop from his brother Mohammed Mazsood, which Sam operated until 1998.

He bought Nic’s Restaurant in Falher (Sammy’s Steak and Pizza’s present location) in 1996. At the time of his passing, Sam still owned the restaurant but began leasing it to his nephew in Feb. 2009.

Sam and his wife had spent a lot of time in the past few years away from the region, as he was going to Pakistan to take care of his aging mother.

Sam helped to establish other members of his family and was always ready to help others in need. He will be sadly missed by the Girouxville community where he established his home. He will also be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to get to know him. Saleem, Zubida and family had previously suffered a mishap when their house burned to the ground.

Everyone in Girouxville cooperated and helped them gather furniture, clothing, housing supplies and other items to help them get back on their feet. They have been forever grateful for all the support from the community.
