Clara Tanguay, 1912 - 2000
Clara Tanguay, long time resident of Edmonton/McLennan, Alberta passed away on October 25, 2000 in Edmonton at the age of 88 years. Clara wass born in Myrtle Creek, AB July 12, 1912 to Octavien & Ernestine Pellant. The family moved to Kenzie in 1929. As all big families they enjoyed many family gatherings forming their own musical group entertaining at many local parties. Clara was employed by many McLennan families as housekeeper, babysitter, midwife, etc. In 1936 Clara married Alfred (Fred) Tanguay and moved to their homestead in Donnelly, AB. In the winter she took care of the farm as Fred would work in the bush. As Fred was a good baseball player they spent many weekends going to tournaments. Their son Leron (Lonny) was born August 7, 1944. The family moved to McLennan in 1955, and Clara started working for the Co-op as cashier. In 1969 Fred passed away and Clara continued to work until she moved to Edmonton in 1972, where she worked at Alberta Health Care as a kitchen trainer. She retired for good in 1975 at the age of 68. She moved into Meadowcroft Seniors Complex in 1980. Clara loved her independence and gathering with friends for a cup of coffee and laughs (even off color jokes). She enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, especially the Oilers and Eskimos. Clara will be dearly missed and never forgotten by her family and many friends. She is survived by her loving son, Leron and daughter-in-law, Claire. Her grand children Jil, (Jody) Michelle (Julien) and her great-grand children Delanie, Tye, Spenser and Alissa. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta; or to the Asthma Society. Memorial mass in honor of Clara will be held November 11, 2000 at 2pm at the St. John the Baptist Cathedral in McLennan.
