Abel Joseph Ouellet, 1940-2008

Abel Joseph Ouellet passed away on Saturday September 20, 2008 of a heart attach in his home in Tangent Alberta. He was 68 years old. The funeral was on Saturday September 27, 2008 at the church in Tangent. The funeral was reverend by Father Maurice Marion and Deacon Reg Buchard. Ginette Abin sang and played the keyboard. The cross bearer was Cory Thorlakson, Abel’s eight year old grandson, and the pallbearers were Gustave Ouellet, Phillippe Ouellet, Marcel Ouellet, Michel Ouellet, Beniot Ouellet, and Andre Blanchette. He was the son of Octave and Imelda Ouellet, and was born in St. Eugene de Ladiere in the county of Rimouskie, Quebec on March 30, 1940. Abel Ouellet was predeceased by Daniel Ouellet, Jules Ouellet, and Lucien Ouellet, and is survived by his brothers and sisters Jeannette Jacob, Lina Boily, Phillippe Ouellet, Therese Trimble, Gustave Ouellet, Mariette Lepage, Michel Ouellet, Catherine Ouellet, Lucie Lepage and Marcel Ouellet. Abel Ouellet opened up land in the Tangent in 1957 and married Jeannine Blanchette in 1964. Abel and Jeannine had three children, Beniot Ouellet, Pierre Roy, and Chantal Thorlakson. Abel and Jeannine divorced shortly after, Jeannine moved to Yellowknife in 1972. Abel remarried in 1977, when he fell in love with Marie Couturier from Jean Cote. They were married and lived on the farm for 22 years. During this time Abel also had a business doing small engine repair and tool sharpening. The relationship ended in 1996, and Abel and Marie were divorced in 1998. The farm was then sold and Abel moved to the Tangent town. For the last 10 years, Abel lived peacefully in Tangent. His family and friends will remember him for his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed by everyone.
