Edward Joseph Parent, 1920-2008

Edward Parent, resident of Vanderwell Lodge in Slave Lake, passed away on Dec. 1 at the age of 88. Edward was born on July 26, 1920 in North Dakota. At the age 18, Edward was enlisted in the Canadian army, Winnipeg Grenadiers, where he fought in World War II. In 1946, he married Patricia Poirier and moved to Jean Cote. He farmed with his son Roger until 1988 and sold the farm to move to Island Lake near Athabasca in 1995. He later moved to Slave Lake where he eventually passed away. From his four children, the family grew to eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. (Suella, Rodney, Lori-Ann, Crystal, Jordan, Sylvain, Jason, Aleshia, Stephane, Jonah, Cameron, Trevin and Dominique). His passion was going fishing with family and friends, also enjoying time with his grandchildren and his children’s friends. Edward was predeceased by his two brothers; Albert and Arnest, his two sisters; Leona Cry and Yvonne Boucher, and his mother Alexine Leblanc and father Arture Parent. Edward is survived by his wife Patricia (Poirier), sons; Roger (Rita) Parent (Girouxville), Phillippe (Kathy) Parent (Alberta Beach), Jack (Shelley) Parent (Kelowna), his daughter Paulette Ward (Slave Lake), foster child Molly-Ann Strong (Peace River), brother Paul (High River) and sister Helene Lavoie (Peace River). Funeral services for the late Edward Parent were held on Dec. 6 from the Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Girouxville with Father Marion officiating. Interment will follow at the Girouxville Cemetery in the spring. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Chapel of Memories in High Prairie.
