John Radomski, 1932 - 2007
John Radomski passed away on November 14, 2007 at his home in Watino, Alberta at 74 years.
John was born to Lucash and Odarko Radomski on December 25, 1932 on their family farm in Volyn, Alberta.
It was on this farm that he was raised along with his four sisters and four brothers.
John attended Volyn and Royal Winner schools, completing Grade 8.
Education for most children at this time frequently took a back seat to the needs of the family economy.
John farmed, worked on cat equipment clearing land, digging dugouts, cutting seismic lines, and on the Dunvegan ferry until the bridge opened.
Worked on building roads in Alberta
He then started work for Alberta Transportation as an equipment operator and later foreman on road-building projects throughout the province.
John’s work reflected the positive qualities his parents had instilled in him – self discipline, responsibility, good judgment, and perseverance.
He retired in 1991.
John’s hobbies included baseball, golfing, curling, watching hockey, playing his harmonica, and travelling.
He realized his childhood dream of going to the World Series of Major League Baseball.
John liked gardening, grew an abundance of vegetables, and kept his lawn manicured.
He was a handy man and was always willing to help his neighbours.
John enjoyed the 26 years he lived in Watino, his friends in the Smoky River business community, the many weekends spent at the golf course, and curling rinks, and he appreciated all the medical care he received the past few years as he battled cancer.
John is predeceased by his parents, his sister Mary Guydash, brothers Bill Radomski and Paul Radomski, four nephews, and a great-niece.
He will be truly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Elizabeth; his son Randy (Linda) Radomski; grandchildren Kimberly Radomski and Kevin (Stephanie) Radomski; great-granddaughters Samantha Radomski and Brooklyn Radomski; sisters Neda Jakubowski, Anne (Nick) Konopelka, and Helen (Fred) Holmes; brothers Fred (Julie) Radomski and Mike (Jeanette) Radomski; sisters-in-law Margaret Radomski and Mary Radomski; and many nieces and nephews, and friends.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 19 at Rycroft Community Hall.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Chapel of Memories, Peace River.
