Falher, Alberta

Rene Roy, 1936-2008

Rene Henri Roy, life-long resident of Falher, Alberta, passed away on March 8, 2008, after a long struggle with emphysema, at the age of 72. Rene was born on his parent’s farm, on January 18, 1936, the youngest of Cyrille Roy and Annette Hebert’s three children. In 1961, he married Louise Michaud from St. Vincent, Alberta. Rene was a determined, hard working, honest man who always showed strong commitment to his family, friends and community. He was an excellent business man, with skill and dedication, in addition to the farm, Rene worked for Falher Alfalfa Ltd. from 1973 to 1997. He started out as field manager but quickly moved up to the general manager position. As a result of his efforts, at the time of his retirement, Falher Alfalfa was one of the most successful dehydration operations in Canada and the family farm, with Louise’s help, had become a profitable company. Rene enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sharing a good laugh. His favourite pastimes were fishing, golfing, playing cards and he also had a keen interest in local history and geneology. Rene, dad, pepere, thank you for everything you have given us. We will always love you – your family. Rene is predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Gisele. He is survived by his wife, Louise, his daughter Claudette (Jim) Davis of Grande Prairie, and his son Gilles (Apinya) Roy, of Falher; 5 grand-children, John, Mathieu, Patrick and Emilie Davis and Daniel Roy; his sister Henriette Laverdiere of Girouxville and his brother Guy Roy of Falher. His Funeral services was in the St. Anne Church in Falher on March 13, 2008 with Father Boniface N’kulu Lupitshi officiating. Pallbearers were Fernand Picquette, Joel Michaud, Richard Laverdiere, Darcy Michaud, Armand Brochu and Richard Veraart. Crossbearer was Gene Chalifoux. His ashes will be buried later beside his daughter Gisele. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Chapel of Memories, Peace River.
