Falher, Alberta

Aurea Savageau, 1914 - 2007

Aurea Maria Sauvageau, longtime resident of Falher and area, quietly passed away July 18, 2007 in McLennan in Manoir du Lac at 93 years of age. Aurea was born January 26, 1914, in Montreal, Quebec to Alfred and Amanda Champagne. Arrived in Falher in 1928 with family At the age of 14, Aurea, sister Helene, and two brothers moved to Alberta in the Peace Country, settling in Falher in 1928. She married Philippe Sauvageau on August 8, 1932 and moved to their homestead southwest of Falher. In 1968, Aurea and her husband moved from the farm to the town of Falher in their new home. Two years later, her husband passed away. She decided to live there another two years, then moved to Edmonton to be nearer to her daughter Rosanne. While there, she travelled to Florida and to Spain with one of her two brothers. In, 1990, she was not feeling too good, but after an operation, she felt a lot better, so she moved to Falher at Villa Beausejour. She stayed there until March 2007 when she was transferred to the old nursing home in McLennan. In May 2007, she moved to Manoir du Lac where she quietly passed away. Aurea was predeceased by her husband Philippe, sons Gerard and Raymond, daughter Simone, son-in-law Mike Lucuk, and grandson Alvin Lucuk. She was the last surviving member of the Champagne family She was the last survivor of the Champagne family. She is survived by her children: son Albert (Yvette) Sauvageau of Westbank, British Columbia; daughter Rosanne (Fred (Leighton) of Edmonton; Paul (Sharon) Sauvageau of Medicine Hat; and Maurice (Denise) Sauvageau of High Prairie; 15 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; and eight great-great- grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Gilberte Sauvageau of Falher. Memorial service July 28 in Falher Memorial service was held July 28 in Falher at Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Boniface N’Kulu Lupitshi OSB officiating. Honourary pallbearers were grandchildren Angele Fontaine, Peggy Popielarz, Rene Sauvageau, Denis Sauvageau, Bradley Leighton, and Wayne Lucuk. Organist was Ginette Aubin. Lucie Sauvageau was soloist. Derick Sauvegeau was cross bearer. Daniel Sauvageau and Jerome Sauvageau were gift bearers. Urn bearer was granddaughter Irene Houle. Eulogists were Denis Sauvageau and Angele Fontaine. Readers were Lizanne Sauvageau and Angele Fontaine. Special thoughts “It’s not what you accumulate in life that is is important, it’s what you leave behind when you are gone,” states a famous expression. For the family, she has left us with precious knowledge and great memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Arrangements were under Chapel of Memories in Peace River.
