Marie–Ange Tardif, 1920-2009
|
Marie–Ange Léontine Tardif was born on Nov. 3, 1920 at LaTuque, Quebec to Adélard Demeule and Léontine Boissoneault.
She passed away at the age of 89 years on Dec. 6 in McLennan after suffering a severe stroke on Nov. 26.
Marie–Ange moved to the Peace Country with her parents and sister Claudia in 1925. At the young age of 14 she married Henri Tardif in McLennan. On April 14, 2009 they celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
Marie–Ange was an avid cook. She cooked for numerous winters in lumber camps and was also a cook for the crew who built the Dunvegan Bridge. Her home was always a welcome haven for everyone. She was known for her pancakes, cinnamon buns, flapper pie and jelly rolls. The food was plentiful and whether one was hungry or not, they ate.
Marie–Ange and Henri moved to many places around the Smoky River area. They operated a service station up the hill not far from Girouxville then moved it near the bridge in Watino, where they remained for many years until the Smoky River flooded and destroyed their business in 1972.
In 1989, Marie–Ange and Henri moved to McLennan where they remained until moving into the Villa Beausejour in Dec. 2006. At first, Marie–Ange wasn’t sure if she would like it in a residence. That evening the Northern Lights Choir performed Christmas carols for the residents and the next day one could tell that she would settle in and get to love being there. Health issues were the reason Marie–Ange and Henri returned back to McLennan in June 2007 as residents of the Manoir du Lac. She absolutely loved it there and would tell visitors “On est bien ici... we are happy here and we should have moved here sooner... I don’t have to clean, cook or wash our clothes.” She loved the staff and the many things they would do for her and they loved her.
Marie–Ange and Henri were never blessed with children but had the opportunity to help her sister Claudia raise Irene and Yvonne. She is survived by her loving husband Henri. She was predeceased by her father in 1960, mother in 1989, sister Claudia in 2007 and niece Yvonne in 1954.
Happy, caring, never complaining, always appreciative, loving, smiling are just a few of the words to describe Marie–Ange.
Funeral services for Marie–Ange were held in McLennan at the St. John the Baptist Cathedral on Dec. 11 with Father Joseph Jacobson and Deacon Reg Bouchard officiating. Honourary pallbearers were family and friends and the staff of the Manoir du Lac. Eulogist was Margaret Tardif.
The music for the funeral mass was provided by organist Nicole Beaudoin, soloist Paul Dubrule and the choir of the St. John the Baptist Church Choir under the direction of Mimi Lavoie. Interment followed at the Notre-Dame de Lourdes Cemetery in Girouxville.
Donations may be made to the Smoky River Palliative Care or the Heart and Stroke Foundation as expressions of sympathy.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Chapel of Memories in Peace River.
