Katherine Yaremko, 1910-2009

Katherine “Katie” Yaremko of Tangent, AB passed away at the Central Peace Hospital on Feb. 3 at the age of 98 years. Katherine was born April 24, 1910 in Kippling, Sask. and came to the Tangent district in 1927. Katherine and her husband John were the first settlers in Tangent. Katherine was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Albert Purcha, husband John, daughter Mary, sons Alex, Walter and Steve, two daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, four brothers, two sisters and also brothers and sisters-in-law. Katherine is survived by son Stanley of Tangent, daughter Dolores (Don) Melin of Edmonton, son Paul (Vicky) of Tangent, granddaughter Doris (Jules) Boivin of Eaglesham. She is also survived by brother Steve Purcha, 11 Grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Feb. 7 at Tangent Sts Martyrs Canadiens Roman Catholic Church, with Reverend Maurice Marion and Deacon Reg Bouchard officiating. Organist was Rolande Johnson and soloist was Ernest Johnson. Her grandsons held various positions at the service including; cross bearer – David Yaremko, pallbearers – James Yaremko, Kevin Yaremko, Carl Yaremko, Cory Yaremko, Craig Melin, Trevor Melin, Colin Boivin, and Curtis Boivin. Don Melin delivered a most touching eulogy of Gramma’s life. Interment followed at the St. Martyrs Cemetery Tangent, AB. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Spirit River Palliative Care, St. Martyrs Church Tangent or Charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Chapel of Memories, Peace River, AB.
